The Passenger

Here's a new version of "The Passenger" by Iggy Pop, which may well strike a chord or two. (Well its, E minor, C, G and D repeated to be exact.)

I am the passenger, and I ride and I ride,
I take the bike or a bus or a trike,
I crave the clean air that I like,
But everything seems tainted tonight,
I'd see the stars but they're covered with shite,
And everything is polluted tonight,

I am the passenger, and I ride and I ride,
I see the cars come out tonight,
I see the smog, I know it's not right,
For every breath, I have to fight,
The air's so thick you can take a bite,
I'll fight car culture with all of my might.

Singing la la la la la la la la (or perhaps a feigned coughing fit here)
la la la la la la la la etc.

Let's sab the cars,
We'll stop their passengers,
And their drivers in the city tonight,
We'll make Top Gear quiver with fright,
We'll save the bright and hollow sky,
With less emissions from the city's backside
And then the biosphere will be alright.

Oh the passenger,
How he rides and he rides,
Looks though the window and what does he see?
He sees the cones where the flowers should be,
And the gridlock tight as can be,
He thinks protesters are out of their trees,
It doesn't seem that way to me.

So let's take a ride,
And see the days of the car are past,
No smoke without fire, how long could it last?
And now the mind of the nation is cast,
To pin green colours up to the mast,
And gearing up to do it fast.

Singing la la la la la la la la,
No you cannot drive in your car,
Even still to think it, I think it's bizarre,
Put a pickaxe through your bonnet or you'll drive me too far.
It'll mean there's no drink driving so I'll see you
In the Bar.
